Sleep Disordered Breathing and Health Risks

The Sleep Heart Health Study, a multi-center cohort study implemented by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has determined that SDB is associated with a host of cardiovascular and health problems, including increased risk of incident stroke, high blood pressure, all-cause mortality, recurrent CHD, and recurrent stroke, among other problems.

In the United States hypertension affects 50 million Americans and OSA is a primary identifiable cause. There is an extremely high correlation of OSA in this population exceeding 50%. Additionally, patients with OSA are three times more likely to have heart failure.
